The short answerYou can't submit a business to ChatGPT. It finds you through web search, so let OpenAI's OAI-SearchBot crawl your site, put prices, ages, schedules and location in plain HTML text, claim your Google Business Profile and Bing Places listing, keep your name, address and phone consistent, and collect reviews.
Parents now ask chatbots the same questions they used to type into Google: "coding class for a 9-year-old near me," "half-day art camp in July under $300." If your program doesn't come up in the answer, you never hear about the family who asked. This guide covers what actually decides whether ChatGPT can find and recommend a small camp, tutor or class, based on what OpenAI, Google, Microsoft and others have published.
Can I list my business on ChatGPT?
No. There's no ChatGPT business directory or listing form. When someone asks for local activities, ChatGPT searches the web and builds its answer from the pages it finds. OpenAI's help page on web search says it ranks results "using multiple factors" and that "placement is not guaranteed."
So the real question is how to be easy to find, easy to read and easy to trust on the open web. Everything below falls under one of those three.
How do I get my business to show up in ChatGPT search?
Start by letting OpenAI's search crawler into your site. OpenAI runs three separate bots, and its crawler documentation explains what each one does:
- OAI-SearchBot finds websites to show in ChatGPT's search results. This is the one that matters for being recommended.
- ChatGPT-User visits a page when a person in ChatGPT asks about it. OpenAI says it isn't used to decide what appears in search.
- GPTBot collects content that may be used to train OpenAI's models.
Each setting is independent. You can block GPTBot from training on your content and still allow OAI-SearchBot so your program shows up in answers. OpenAI says robots.txt changes take about 24 hours to take effect. Its help page adds one more requirement: your web host or firewall has to allow traffic from OpenAI's published search bot IP addresses. Some website builders and security plugins block "AI bots" with one toggle, so check yours.
Other assistants work the same way. Anthropic uses Claude-SearchBot for search and ClaudeBot for training, and Perplexity asks sites to allow PerplexityBot to appear in its results.
Why can't ChatGPT see the prices and dates on my site?
Most likely because they're loaded by JavaScript, and AI crawlers don't run JavaScript. In a study of crawler traffic on its network, Vercel and MERJ found that none of the major AI crawlers rendered JavaScript, including all three of OpenAI's bots, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot. Google's Gemini was the exception, because it uses Googlebot's infrastructure.
That hits small providers hard. Booking widgets, embedded calendars, schedule apps and pricing tables often load after the page opens. A person sees them. A crawler gets an empty box.
The fix is simple to check. Open your class page, view the page source, and search for your price. If it isn't in the source, write the key facts as normal text on the page:
- Ages or grades
- Price, and what it includes
- Dates, days and times
- Exact location, or "online"
- What the kids actually do
- How to register
A parent asking "Saturday robotics class for 8-year-olds in Austin" gets a match only if those words exist on a page the crawler can read.
Does ChatGPT use Google reviews, Bing or Yelp?
ChatGPT uses outside search providers, and Microsoft is one of them. OpenAI's help page on web search says ChatGPT "sometimes partners with other search providers," and it links to Microsoft's privacy statement in its list of those providers. The same page says ChatGPT may share a general location with third-party providers to get local information such as nearby business listings. For restaurants, it can show reservation times from OpenTable, Resy and Yelp.
OpenAI doesn't publish a full list of where local business data comes from, and it doesn't say whether it reads Google reviews. So don't bet on one platform. Cover the listings that search engines rely on:
- Google Business Profile. Google says complete, accurate profiles are more likely to appear in local results, and that more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking. It also says there's no way to pay for a better local ranking.
- Bing Places for Business. Because Bing is a search source for ChatGPT, this listing matters more than it used to. Microsoft relaunched Bing Places in October 2025 at bing.com/forbusiness, with an import from Google Business Profile.
- Yelp and local directories, where parents in your area already look.
Use the exact same business name, address and phone number everywhere. When your listings disagree, a search engine or an AI model has to guess which one is right.
What should I fix first?
Fix what blocks you entirely first, then what makes you easy to recommend.
| What to fix | Where | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Allow OAI-SearchBot and Claude-SearchBot | robots.txt, host or firewall settings | Blocked sites can't appear in AI search results |
| Put price, ages, dates and location in plain text | Each class or camp page | AI crawlers don't run JavaScript widgets |
| Claim and complete your profile | Google Business Profile | Complete profiles show up more in local results |
| Claim and complete your listing | Bing Places for Business | Bing is one of ChatGPT's search sources |
| Match name, address and phone | Website, Google, Bing, Yelp, directories | Conflicting details make you harder to trust |
| Ask families for reviews | Google, Yelp, Facebook | Reviews count toward local prominence |
| One page per program | Your website | A specific page can answer a specific question |
Can I advertise my business on ChatGPT?
Yes. OpenAI began testing ads in ChatGPT in the US on February 9, 2026, and businesses can sign up at ads.openai.com. Its Ads Manager availability page lists the US as available for self-service.
There are limits that matter for kids' programs:
- Ads show only to Free and Go users. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts don't see them.
- OpenAI doesn't show ads to accounts it identifies as belonging to people under 18.
- Ads appear below the answer, labeled as sponsored.
- OpenAI says ads don't influence ChatGPT's answers and advertisers can't change or rank its responses.
That last point is the important one. An ad buys a box under the answer, not a place in it. Paying won't get ChatGPT to name your camp when a parent asks for a recommendation. That only comes from the work above.
How do parents use AI to find kids' activities?
More than most providers think. In an April 2026 survey of 1,004 US parents, Lurie Children's Hospital found that 81% had used AI to help with parenting tasks. Planning activities and crafts was one of the most common uses, at 37%.
Parents ask in full sentences, with details: a child's age, a neighborhood, a budget, a day of the week. ChatGPT rewrites those questions into search queries and uses an approximate location from the user's IP address, according to OpenAI. The providers that come up are the ones whose pages state those details clearly.
What's the step-by-step plan?
Here's the order to work in, about one afternoon of effort:
- Check your robots.txt and website builder settings. Allow OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot and PerplexityBot. Decide separately whether to allow training bots like GPTBot.
- View the source of each program page and confirm price, ages, dates and location appear as text. Rewrite any that only live inside a widget.
- Give each camp session, class or tutoring offer its own page with a clear title, like "Summer Robotics Camp for Ages 8-12 in East Austin."
- Claim and fill out your Google Business Profile, including category, hours, photos and service area.
- Claim your Bing Places listing, importing from Google if that's faster, and verify it.
- Make your name, address and phone match across your site and every listing.
- Ask recent families for reviews and reply to them.
- Test it. Ask ChatGPT what a parent would ask, with search on, and look at which sources it cites. Ask again in a few weeks.
Where does Kaleto fit?
Kaleto is a marketplace for kids' camps, classes and enrichment programs, built to be read by AI assistants as well as by parents. It runs a public MCP server at api.kaleto.ai/mcp that assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude can connect to for searching providers and classes. If you want your programs in that index alongside your own site, you can list them on Kaleto.
Common questions
Is there a way to submit my business directly to ChatGPT?
No. OpenAI has no submission form or business directory for ChatGPT. It finds businesses through web search, so being crawlable and having clear, accurate pages is what counts.
Should I block GPTBot if I want to appear in ChatGPT?
You can. GPTBot is used for model training, and OpenAI says each bot setting is independent. Blocking GPTBot while allowing OAI-SearchBot keeps you eligible for ChatGPT search results.
Can paying for ChatGPT ads get my camp recommended in answers?
No. OpenAI says ads run on separate systems and advertisers can't shape, rank or alter ChatGPT's responses. Ads appear below the answer and are labeled as sponsored.
How long does it take for robots.txt changes to affect ChatGPT search?
OpenAI says it can take about 24 hours after you update robots.txt for its systems to adjust. Showing up in answers still depends on ranking, which OpenAI doesn't guarantee.
Do I need a Bing listing if I already have a Google Business Profile?
Yes, it's worth it. ChatGPT uses third-party search providers, and Microsoft is one of them. Bing Places can import your Google Business Profile, so setup is quick.
